The 2018-2019 school year is underway!  There has been a slight change to the music schedule (which is located at the bottom of this page).  We'll have another great year learning how to use the musical gifts God gave us and how we can praise and glorify His name by using these gifts.

We have five new students in Band and they'll be taking lessons to learn how to play their instruments before joining the Band for the Christmas program and then second semester.  There will be another musical in the Spring (so we can get back on the alternating Choir Festival year).  Western Band Festival takes place this year.

Lesson Plans for this Week
Band:  We will be playing through songs in our binders.  Lessons are underway and fifth graders are getting to know their instruments and how to play them; they need to bring their instruments to school on Wednesdays.  Parents, please encourage regular practicing.
5-8 Choir & Music:  We will be reviewing rhythm using worksheets as well as reviewing note names and how to read music.  The Choir will look at reading different parts for singing and then sing songs in our folders.

Kindergarten:  We continue with "Creation Celebration" where we read about how God created all the animals, followed by learning the songs and doing actions with them.  We are studying a unit called "Instrument Zoo!" where students will learn about all the different instruments.  They'll get to hear the instruments, learn about them, and color a picture. "The Music in Me and You" will teach body percussion, call and response, and some familiar songs like "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes".

1st & 2nd:  "Rhythm Instrument Fun" continues for this class.  Lessons this week will cover instrument rules, singing and playing instruments in 3/4 meter, beat and name chants, singing and playing instruments with a familiar song (If You're Happy), and playing rhythm sticks with music.

3rd & 4th:  This class gets to learn how to play recorders during the first semester.  After reviewing note names and the staff, recorders were handed out last week.  So this week we begin by using a method called "Do It! Recorders".  First lessons will cover the notes B, A and G.  Students will learn how to finger them and play them using songs in the book like "Hot Cross Buns" and "Mary Had A Little Lamb".

If you would like to visit us during a music class period, feel free to do so.  Let Mrs. Johnson know you are coming, or call the office.  You are welcome any time!

You can contact Mrs. Johnson via email at, or call the school.
