WELCOME TO MUSIC

We're having another great year learning how to use the musical gifts God gave us and how we can praise and glorify His name by using these gifts.

We are  busy preparing for our Christmas Program.  There will be another musical in the Spring (so we can get back on the alternating Choir Festival year).  Western Band Festival takes place this year on March 28.

Lesson Plans for this Week
Band:  We have chosen the songs for our Christmas Program and are busy practicing.  The 6th/8th grade Band will also begin sightreading a new book called "Classical Flex-Trios".  Lessons are going strong and fifth graders are getting to know their instruments and how to play them.  They need to bring their instruments and lesson books to school on Wednesdays for lessons and from now through Dec. 4 every Monday as well so they can practice their 3 songs for the Christmas Program with the 6th/8th graders.  Parents, please encourage regular practicing.  I recommend they practice the content on each page three times every time they practice (rather than going by how many minutes practiced).  They also need to practice more than once or twice a week.  Skills cannot be developed unless practice remains a priority.  The 6th/8th grade Band is working on their songs and we are challenging ourselves a little more than usual this year with some of the music.

5-8 Choir & Music:  The 5th - 8th graders are working on songs for the Christmas Program.  This year we will feature the 7th & 8th graders on Pachelbel's Canon, all instrumental (Orff instruments:  xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels, bells, hand-held percussion).  On November 14 the 5th & 6th graders will be attending the annual Concert For Children where they'll get to hear the NW IA Symphony.  This year's guest performer is from Nebraska and she will be playing a little-known instrument called the nyckelharpa.

Kindergarten:  We are learning our songs for the Christmas Program.

1st & 2nd:  From now until the Christmas Program we will practice the songs that the K-4 students will sing.

3rd & 4th:  We continue to practice the two songs this group will perform at the Christmas Program and the students are really looking forward to it.  We will continue practiccing the Orff instrument parts for two of the Christmas Program songs that K-4 will perform.  And they are working on the other songs as well!

The IC Christmas Program has been set for December 4 at 7:00 p.m.

The music schedule is somewhat different starting Nov. 19 when K-4 will rehearse all together rather than having separate classes in order to be more prepared for the Program.  This will take place at 11:00 a.m. both Mondays and Wednesdays.  Also music will be on Monday, Nov. 12 and Tuesday, Nov. 13 (rather than Wednesday).  Our Veterans' Day program is at 10:45 Monday.

If you would like to visit us during a music class period, feel free to do so.  Let Mrs. Johnson know you are coming, or call the office.  You are welcome any time!

You can contact Mrs. Johnson via email at marbar@alliancecom.net, or call the school.
