Barb Johnson

We will be presenting our Spring musical on April 23 and it is called "Rescue in the Night", the story of Daniel in the lion's den.  The excitement is mounting!  The musical is always one of the biggest highlights of the school year so I hope you'll plan to attend and watch the students share this wonderful Bible story!

We are all thrilled to have 8 students in Band!  We're preparing for our Spring Program and for Interscholastic solo/ensemble contest which takes place April 24 in Sioux Center (the 7th and 8th graders will participate).  The 5th -8th grade Choir learned six songs for the Choir Festival which was held Feb. 27, at Unity Christian in Orange City, and was enjoyed by all!  The songs were wonderful, the director was fantastic and it was so much fun to sing with all the other Christian school students from around the area.

In other happenings in the Music Room, students are currently concentrating on the musical.  After our Spring Program, we will continue learning more basic music theory (music symbols, terms, notes, etc.), studying composers from different eras, and exploring music through listening, singing and movement.  The class time goes by all too quickly!

Lesson Plans for March and April:  (Since we will be working on the musical, the lesson plans will remain the same.)

Band:  We will be working on our songs for the Spring Program.  Right now we have a rather long list of choices so have to narrow that down to about five songs.  With our instrumentation, we play songs that are specifically written for any combination of instruments rather than full band arrangements.  There are usually three parts, sometimes four.  It provides all players with the challenge of learning their part and being confident with it so all parts are heard when we perform.

Kindergarten - 8th Grade Music:  Practices for the musical will take place in our gym at 10:30 on Mondays and 12:45 on Wednesdays.  The musical is an all-school event and all the teachers are involved.  On April 16 and 18 we will practice over at the Christian Reformed Church.  On the day of the Program, April 23, we will have a dress rehearsal (time is yet to be determined) at the church and the Program will be that evening at 7:00 p.m.  We will let everyone know when the dress rehearsal time is set; if you can't attend the evening performance, you are welcome to come to the dress rehearsal!

If you would like to visit us during a music class period, feel free to do so.  Let Mrs. Johnson know you are coming, or call the office.  You are welcome any time!  (During March and April the schedule is changed - see above.)

You can contact Mrs. Johnson via email at, or call the school, or her home (753-2378).
